I don’t know why that´s the case, but I heard that banana trees don’t like to bloom in our latitudes. Now the second tree is doing that for me.
My first one unfortunately died after flowering. I don’t know whether that is because it is a variety that does not survive the flower or whether he was just so offended in autumn because he had to go inside that he died out of protest.
Every time I worry about the tree before it blooms. I always think it is not doing well at all. It doesn’t grow a new leaf for a long time and looks quite scruffy. At some point I discover the bud and then I´m really happy.
This time it was like that again. Last autumn I replanted the banana tree. Quite brutal, since he had a huge young one in the pot that was not easy to separate. Then he had to move inside in winter.
He didn’t like that very much. After all, this is a banana TREE and space in the apartment is quite limited. He also touches the ceiling and he doesn’t particularly like that.
All winter long it only got two new leaves. I had to help him roll them out, he couldn’t do it alone because he didn’t have the necessary space. In spring he was allowed outside. But he still didn´t grow a new leaf and I thought he was just a little offended. But then it got hot and suddenly there was a small wrapper and the flower. This time a green-yellow flower. And even small bananas. Banana trees bloom for a long time. Up to six months. If you want it to go faster, you can cut off part of the flower. I don´t want to do that. I think the flower is very pretty and I like to look at it.
The first thing it does is grow the wrapper of the flower. It is shaped like a normal banana leaf, only very short and thick. You can usually see the bud underneath. The petals (bracts) lie over the small bananas. These petals open gradually starting from the stem of the flower towards the flower tip. 
During this time, the flower continues to grow longer and longer. The bananas are already set under these leaves. At the end of every mini banana there is a real, small flower.
Ants like to visit these flowers. I have not yet been able to determine that the ants are causing damage. I think they just take the nectar in the absence of other hungry insects.
Unfortunately than there was a storm. Lightning, thunder, hail, everything that goes with it. He survived it all well. The next day it rained very heavily and this rain tore off all the leaves. I don’t think he can grow new ones because he needs all his strength for his bloom.
